PROTEOME SCIENCES APPOINTS DR. PETER SCHULZ-KNAPPE AS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

The Board of Proteome Sciences plc ("Proteome Sciences" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the appointment to the Board of the Company of Dr. Peter Schulz-Knappe as Research and Development Director.
Awards of nil cost options under the Company's Long Term Incentive Plan were granted to Dr. Schulz-Knappe on 1st August, 2006 when he joined the Group and were calculated at a price of 36 pence per share as follows:
