Research FacilitiesProteome Sciences employs more than 40 skilled scientists from across a broad range of complementary and diverse backgrounds essential to undertake high-output proteomics from two purpose built facilities in the UK and Germany. In addition to these, Proteome Sciences has benefited from extensive and longstanding collaborative research agreements with leading global academics and academic institutions in the field of proteomics in human disease, including University Cantonal Hospital Geneva, King’s College Hospital London, University of Michigan and Imperial College, London. LondonProteome Sciences’ laboratory is located at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. It provides high sensitivity 2D gel electrophoresis and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry capabilities with a strong emphasis on the identification and analysis of post-translational modification of proteins, particularly protein phosphorylation, image analysis and bioinformatics. FrankfurtThe Frankfurt facility, acquired in July 2002 — the former proteomics division of Aventis Research and Technologies — is equipped and staffed to the levels of a global pharmaceutical company. With a capacity to process over 300 2D gels and analyse over 11,000 protein spots per week, the facility operates at the leading edge of high output proteomics (high throughput combined with high sensitivity). Through this facility, Proteome Sciences has developed PST® (Protein Sequence Tags), qPST™ and TMT® (Tandem Mass Tags) novel, proprietary protein profiling technologies which offer simultaneous, timely and accurate relative quantitation of a large number of proteins for the discovery of novel targets or biomarkers. The technology is particularly powerful for differential analysis of hydrophobic proteins and in particular membrane proteins with discovery rates in excess of 50% coverage of proteins identified as membrane or membrane associated.
